More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene at 4407 Wheeler Ave., a portion of which collapsed after flames ignited around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, Alexandria officials said.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury and has been treated and released by INOVA Alexandria Hospital.

Jeffery’s Catering, a key provider for the "Meals on Wheels" program, was severely impacted by the blaze.

"The Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) and Senior Services of Alexandria are working together to assure continued delivery of meals to participating residents," officials said in a release.
